uni thoughts.

I'm sitting here in an ethics lecture kind of zoning out. even though a person has taken his time to come and give us a talk. He's telling us about his struggle with his daily life and the things he has to do to cope with a paralyzed life.

Uni has been going well. Been enjoying learning new things and getting to know new people. But something still doesn't feel so right.
I guess it's in one way because i miss school and i miss the environment. Sat on the train this morning thinking about all the teachers at school and wondering how they're all doing.
Met up with Joe yesterday as well and he seems to be having a good time at school. Talking to some of the ruse kids at talent100 also made me feel a bit of nostalgia. They have exams right now. But instead of thinking "i'm so glad i'm not doing that anymore", i think "ahhh. i remember those days" and smile.

Things during the week keep me going. I look forward to monday basketball each week, and also our med faculty has a touch college cup this afternoon. So looking forward to winning our first game for college C. Work and church on sunday is very enjoyable too. I enjoy working and just having fun with the students. Yesterday we went out to get tubs of ice cream from coles, and just ate it in the study rooms with forks.

A guy I work with (Dr Tony Hall) told me heaps about the stuff he's done over his life. He used to be a doctor intern for 2 years before he became sick of treating sick people. He then went to become a head math teacher at sydney grammar before moving on to being the head of newington. He's good friends with Bill Pender (Mr Cambrdige) too. In high school he used to bully Tony Abbott around because he was 5 years above him.
He's invited me and a couple of the guys to have dinner with him at his home. He lives in a really nice house along kirribilli wharf. It looks out to sydney harbour. His son's a chef too so i'm really looking forward to that.

*skip 4 hours*

I'm currently in my scenario group session discussing about how to make good communication. It really is just verbal blab. But i guess i gotta get back to it before my coordinator guy thinks i lack attention skills and whatnot. The people in my group are pretty cool though.

That's it for now. Looking forward to what's to come.
Newton has great cheap thai btw. i wish it was located closer to UNSW

Summer Recap

Well as of today midnight. Our summer holidays are over. and a new chapter begins in our lives
and mainly as a way of remembering my summer of 09/10. decided to put up a brief recap of the whole 4 months.
when i look back at it. it has been pretty good. lots of things have changed. new things experienced, new friendships made.

Well the highlights for my summer would have to be:
- formal after party

renting and staying in a high rise apartment was just something so new and exciting to do. the views from up there was so amazing and just reminded me again of how beautiful our city is. Also walking in the middle of the city has a certain serene calmness to it. It was just empty at 3am. and that sunrise was just wow.
- schoolies
definitely the best week of my life. looking forward to doing it again next year.

just the stuff we did was so fun and it was so nice spending a week with friends doing everything. beaching, lighting up sparkler bombs, cooking, late night talks, movies, wii, erina fair.
-zoo trip and NYE
for me it was the first time i've watched fireworks in the city since i was around 5. definitely made me feel like the city was such a dirty place with all the rubbish floating around afterwards.

zoo was pretty awesome seeing all the animals and whatnot, and not a kiddy thing to do at all.

fireworks were average but hey. when you start to say that, you know that you're really spoilt
- Donating blood

First time donating blood for me. So it was a pretty cool new experience. nothing much else to say.
- Job at talent100

being my first job ever, it has turned out pretty good. i actually look forward to working each week. The staff are pretty awesome to talk with and the students are funny too. Although i think i bludge too much. Hopefully i'll get to teach later on. for now it's just marking and tutoring.
- Connect
Over the holidays connect has been something i've been regularly going to. Jian, Joy and Andrew Gan of ruse run it, so it's been fun learning new things and meeting new people.

- Cousin's stayover
My cousin came over with my aunt (his mum) to sydney this feb for the first time ever. So my parents and I showed them around. It was nice seeing my relatives again for the first time in 5 years. My cousin is still pretty naughty though. We had dinner at the beverly hills restaurant while they were here, and the lobster sashimi was so nice. looks pretty incredible too when they bring it out for you.

- Getting ready for uni
Gosh that welcome lecture for med at Oweek was boring. Hopefully it wont be like that in uni

Been spending the past week tryna get ready for uni. Just clearing out space in my room. Got a new portable hard drive too. Oh and something i found pretty exciting was going to buy all the med stuff for uni. kris got me my stethoscope today and it looks somewhat like this

the littman classic II in dark blue tubing. got it for $95 for those wondering how much stethoscopes cost

After reading what i've just written, it's so disjointed. so i apologise. but yes. i'm looking forward to the next stage. mainly the people we'll meet, stuff we'll learn and the new things we'll get to experience.

I'm already looking forward to the next summer. Now that we know how much time there really is, hopefully i'll be able to pack more things into it

Hopefully we'll all still be in touch. and not too busy. The thought of exams in june makes me sick already. But yes that is about it for now. Have fun in uni and
Take care y'all

The burger.

I'm so happy cause I have officially converted everyone at my workplace to the burgerhut17 a.k.a degrill.
It's good to know that they share my some love for the burger. Lunch breaks at talent100 are spent waiting at degrill.
Even the students are getting into it.
Example:
"Hey Mike, watcha eating there"
"Best burger in the world"
"Degrill right?"

Let it be known that theburgerhut17 is famously known now.

The only thing that pees me off is the lady still pretends like she doesnt know me. I've spent 2 freaking years tryna become a regular at that place
Everytime i walk in she goes:
"What do you want?"
in my head i'm like "I come here bloody 3 times a week at the same time, and order the same thing everytime"
Yeah and I saw her giving some special offer to some woman when I was waiting for burger to be cooked. She sold her a 600mL bottle coke for $1. Yeah I was pretty cut. I've paid full price everytime.

Anyways. i must go sleep otherwise i'll never wake up for O-week FREE PANCAKES
just dropping in to say the burgers at degrill are awesome as always.

we're all growing up.

During these summer holidays, I've probably sat down at my desk several times, opening up blogger trying to think of things to say. thoughts and feelings. things I've done. But i don't know. just didn't think there was anything really important to mention.

Haven't been doing much over the past month or so. Just kinda little things here and there, and i'm just kinda itching to do one last adventurous thing before uni starts. But over the past month, i've been noticing a lot of change in most of us. I mean heaps of people have started to work. whether its just tutoring jobs or with big firms for cadetships. enrolling for uni, getting all our timetables, and even some already starting uni. just reading about it in other people's blogs, or just talking about it with people, just kinda really gives me the sense that we're all growing up. maybe even a bit too fast.
Don't get me wrong. work can be great. i think for me one of the nice feelings is taking on that extra role of responsibility. stuff that is attached with the coming of age. such as getting Ps, or becoming a senior, a role model and especially starting a job.

I've just recently started working at talent100 as a marker. and i'm finding it really fun. well not the work itself. which is kinda boring. but the people who work there and the students make it so much more fun. There's a couple of guys there who are doing med with me next year as well. so it's been pretty awesome getting to know them all. Today i spent 10 hours working there. but it really felt like nothing. half of the time was just spent talking with people and playing games.
We're going paintballing next friday as a group. Kris and Janette still think intuition is more awesome. I don't mind either way.

Sometimes when i think about it. It feels weird to be on the other side of that "HSC wall" when i was a junior, i remember always thinking that the day after HSC will never come. it was just so far away. and just something i didn't hafta worry about for a long long time. and for me it feels like i've just gone from that mindset and just jumped over that wall without even thinking about it.
Going back to school for valentines day assembly kind of made me realise that. Just talking to the teachers and catching up on stuff we've been doing and stuff they've been doing at school. Reminded me of the many things i left behind as we graduated. KO sport team tryouts, school carnivals, school assemblies, shy year 7's coming through each year, newbie people, agriculture.
Facebook in a way reminds you of these things too, when people invite you groups such as JONES OWNS or people post up videos of valentines assembly.

But uni is something i'm really looking forward to. Just meeting these incredible outgoing people at my workplace doing med, it makes me excited to get to know the rest of the med bunch. I'm also sorta working my way through understanding uni in-jokes as well. Like I told Bosco:
- The only job art students get out of their degree is a job at maccas
- The bachelor of medical science is also known as the bachelor of GAMSAT.
Btw, i didn't mean to offend anyone doing arts or medical science in particular. just passing on what i've been told.
Something that James Xu from ruse 08 said made me laugh a bit. He mentioned at melbourne uni one day, that they had put dynamic lifter on their lawn to fertilise it. His friends cowered at the smell, but to him it just smelt like home.

Anyways. I'm just gonna limit to there. For whoever reading. sorry if it didnt make any sense. I just basically rambled what was going through my head while i was typing this up.

Enjoy the little time you have left of your holidays. Do whatever you've always wanted to do. Don't spend all the time working. We got 50 more years or working to do. Lets just enjoy the time we have now =)

Take Care All

A piece of my life - living it up

Recently i've been getting in basketball quite a bit lately.
Actually starting a team in competition at auburn quite soon, so looking forward to that.
So I'd just like to share a piece of my life with you guys.

Go here probably 4-5 times a week in the arvo. A basketball court right next to this park which is behind burwood girls.
Tonnes of people come in the arvo to play and we'd play for hours on end. Like I said in my med interview, i love it how sport brings people together. i've gotten to know so many of the people there, and we've become good friends. Feels pretty cool to be homies with maori guys as well, so that's an added bonus.
Most of the people who go there are chinese guys who've migrated from china in the past 5 years. since Ashfield i predominantly asian.
To them i'm like a white kid who is chinese. cause they always speak in fobby english to me, when i can perfectly understand and speak mandarin.

Anyways, the other night my family went out to beverly hills to eat at seafood restaurant again. On the way home, my dad insisted dropping by stanmore to look at the houses decked with christmas lights. Which were pretty impressive, but not as good as my dad hyped it up to be.

I reckon it'd be pretty cool if i could fully decorate my place with christmas decorations. A few years ago, our neighbour did that and also had the jingle bells music playing over and over again on one of their toys. got kind of annoying, especially when we had to sleep.

can't believe christmas is coming so soon. where did this whole year go.

went laser tagging today with some of the guys.

thursday $8 games for whoever is interested laters. and we can do it in suits this time. that's one thing checked off my things to do before i die list.

this post has been really disjointed. but just wanted to post this stuff up so i won't forget them in years to come. this blog is sort of my little time capsule to come back on and remember what i did and felt and stuff like that

hoping to see many of you soon at ATAR bbq. until next time
take care

In a nutshell - my adventures

Can you believe it. It's only been a month since we all finished our exams. That's crazy.
Also been nearly a month since i last blogged. so
1- i've pretty much forgotten how to type and recount properly
2- a lot of stuff has happened

To avoid a TL;DR i'll just quickly summarise some of the things that have happened since i last blogged.

UNSW interviews followed by aryan's place.

interviews went pretty well. i felt really comfortable talking in there and the time just passed by so quickly. it was so damn hot that day too. so afterwards i drove me and sy up to aryan's place on full blast air con to join some others in some fun n games.

Epping BBQ

I always love barbeques. Especially when it's with a big bunch of friends.
Nothing better than having a sausage sizzle with some few cold drinks on a summer's day. It's so calm and relaxing.
Bought a big bunch of sausages and drinks . and it was really good. played some basketball and around the play equipment afterwards. cheap thing to do too. 5 bucks a head with drinks food and ice blocks . Definitely will do again

Matt's place

Afterwards caught the bus to matt's place to stayover at his place for the night.
Went out to a bistro nearby to eat. I love going to bistro's cause their steaks aren't bad and they're really cheap too. Food tastes good when it's good and it's cheap.

Dropped over the red rooster to claim some cheeseburger kris had on his entertainment book voucher thingo. and headed back and just wii'd and snooker'd and pool'd all night. The time passed so quickly. It was already 5am when I thought it was 1. Pulled my second all-nighter after formal. Felt so bad afterwards xD
Got to parra maccas and just ate a whole load of hot cakes and headed home. Had a shower and crashed my bed for 8 hours. Sleep deprivation makes you feel so bad afterwards.

SCHOOLIES TRIP
I gotta say. perhaps one of my best weeks of my life. actually definitely.
Such a fun new experience. Loved it so much. Miss the place so much. Already looking forward to doing it again some time.

So much stuff went on and they were all so fun. Highlights for me would be the late night beach sparkle bomb sessions. the day at erina fair. the music stereo playing when we were preparing food and the late night dnm session.

Had a hot streak at erina fair where we decided to buy heaps of scratchies from the newsagent and ended up walking away from it 5 dollars richer. which was awesome. then we spent some money on those chocolate grabbing machines in the shopping centre and walked away from it with a load of candy.
had dinner at spur steak ranch which was really cheap since it was 2 for 1 night for the burgers.

Me and swami also came up with an idea of making a new blog dedicated to recounts of our burger eats and our ratings of the burgers we will try all around sydney. Kind of like a grab your fork. only its just burgers. We still need a name for it.

after dinner. hit up intencity and i hit the jackpot on the monopoly machine. so we were able to all get BEST FRIENDS bands (also thanks to sweet talking the intencity lady ;) into allowing us to have 240 tickets instead of the 232 we had) which was awesome. I flashed them in my UWS interview.
Shopping centres close really early over there. So by the time we left. we were the only ones there. Made an awesome sparkler bomb and attempted to make a bonfire at the beach that night.

Day after, me swami and bryan went out to erina fair again to get matching manbags which were on sale like crazy. reduced to 14 bucks from 60 bucks. and the bags look awesome.

had to include this in. alison found a kid's girl bike in some thrown away trash. and tried to ride it.

Just felt so good that we could live together well as a family for 7 days. That we all cared for each other and looked after each other. Also got to know some people so much more better after this experience. Cause you don't really know how people are at home and stuff really until you spend a lot of time 24/7 to them. They all became my family and i just felt much more open to them afterwards.
We had this late night dnm session until 5am which really made me think about some stuff. But it was just so awesome that we were all open to each other and didn't hold back.
Games of mafia were awesome too. Had a bunch of pretty funny people. and we went on a laughing high for about 2 hours late at night.

UWS interviews followed by HOUSE PARTY
UWS interviews were screwed up. Didn't like it much. Role play sucked. I wouldn't go there anyway after having to travel for ages to get there for interview
Although i did look pretty fly in my business clothes and my manbag. Bryan decided to turn up with his old adidas manbag. which was a dissapointment

Drove up to house party the next morning. Picked up carol from chatswood station. She got me some korean ice block thing which kinda melted by the time we got there since i couldnt eat along the way.

Felt so good to see people from school again. Not just our grade. But all the rest of the peeps. And that we were all there for the same cause. Had lots of fun. Especially picking up basketball again after a week, getting into some deep discussion and the night concert that vijay put on with his band 'road to canaan'. They are a pretty good band. Check them out. Everyone was up and jumping up and down to them. Geoff went kinda crazy haha.

Was helping vijay carry some stuff from his car beforehand and met his band people. Realised one of them 'joel' used to be in my class back in year 3 when we had composite class. So it was pretty awesome to see him again. Back in those days, he was like my big brother. Went digging in my photo archives for photos, and i found him.

He's the one on the left. Guess who the one on the right is.
Left around 9-30 with carol. Dropped her off at chatswood again, and went driving back home. Kinda got lost along the way and i found myself driving past ryde aquatic centre. So i pulled over and checked the map. Went to get maccas for a bit. and drove the long way home. But it was so carefree just driving back at night with my coldplay cd on and just my car on the road . Felt so independent.

So that's about my adventures for now. I can definitely say that my past month has definitely lived up to the hype that i was expecting beforehand. Especially schoolies. Can't believe theres still so much time until we start uni, and that ATAR results are coming out soon. But i don't really care about those things right now.
Enjoy yourselves everybody. Do what you've always wanted to do. Don't hold back
Take care

THE WAGYU BURGER

I'm so damn excited for formal. i actually don't know what goes on during the 5 hours but pretty excited at finally being free and not being restricted by study or parents. my parents have been especially nice after HSC :P

If i haven't excitingly already told you, i passed my P's on thursday
oh joy :D i was so happy
the day when i was actually supposed to do my driving test, this asian driving test guy told me my central brake light was not working, so I had to go get it fixed and do the driving test the next day.
I had a lady instructor on the thursday and i wasnt really nervous actually since i'd already been to the rta the day before and went through the motions. The test passed by really quickly and i was really really careful making my head movements really obvious xD must've looked like an ostrich
waited at this T-junction for around 6 minutes just waiting for the road to be clear, so that ate up some time thankfully :P

Straight afterwards i drove to school by myself for the first time :P It felt pretty good. I dunno why, but i must say i feel more of a man now i can go places without being restricted by transport xD

What happened today:
went grocery shopping for some food and drinks for formal after-party, it feels good to be of some help :P
got about 5L of juice, 3L of ice tea, 4 cans of red bull and getting the rest of the stuff on monday. afterwards went biking and went to play some basketball down at the local courts. it's full of chinese fob uni students and maori people
was just chatting to swami online, and he was asking for a lift to formal and this is what came across:

rohan says:
fair enough
hey can you give me a lfit to formal?

[ruse09] .Mkl Ľīů says:
yeah?
umm hey what about this
im going into the city beforehand
to unload the drinks into the apartment
the girls are gonna be there too
can you catch a train to strathfield and i'll pick you up there?

rohan says:
yeah thats fine
are we still going drinks shopping on monday?

[ruse09] .Mkl Ľīů says:
yep yep
umm do you mind going into the city with me?
and we can chill for a bit while the girls get ready
then head off
saves me making a return trip

rohan says:
awesome
itd be good to chill in the arvo
what time is all this?

[ruse09] .Mkl Ľīů says:
umm
can you get to strathfield at around 4-30?
so we'll get to city by 5

rohan says:
DUDE

[ruse09] .Mkl Ľīů says:
and then chill until 6

rohan says:
BURGER!?

[ruse09] .Mkl Ľīů says:
OH MAN

rohan says:
WE'D BE IN SUITS TOO

[ruse09] .Mkl Ľīů says:
YES WE WOULD
I NEEDA CHECK WHERE THIS PLAN B place is

rohan says:
oh my god oh my god oh my god this is so perfect

[ruse09] .Mkl Ľīů says:
i reckon eh
ok the place closes at 4pm
so get to strathfield by 3
i need to part into the car space at meriton
*park
and we'll walk over to get a burger

rohan says:
freaking. awesome.

[ruse09] .Mkl Ľīů says:
man i cant wait

Finally, getting to taste that plan B wagyu burger in the city AND in suits. for himym non-fanatics or people who are not regular readers of my blog, seems like we're making a fuss over nothing.

But i'm so excited to try this burger. a nice filler before the formal
finally everything is coming into place and life is becoming more and more enjoyable.

That's it for now. I must include a picture before i leave so here it is:

kris at his sweatiest and best after an intense squash session. man that sport is heaps of fun. really really tiring too. i recommend giving it a try, no wonder drew is so fit. sadly my phone can't capture the strongly defined sweat patch on his shirt which extends all the way down the shirt. yum

play safe, can't wait to see you all at formal. lets have some fun
